Groin, incisional and complex hernias

Hernia and abdominal-wall surgery

Assessment and surgical management of groin, incisional and other abdominal-wall hernias, including complex reconstruction where indicated.

Conditions assessed and treated

  • Inguinal (groin) and femoral hernias
  • Umbilical and epigastric hernias
  • Incisional hernias following previous surgery
  • Recurrent hernias after earlier repair
  • Complex abdominal-wall defects needing reconstruction

How assessment works

  1. Clinical examination of the hernia and abdominal wall
  2. Ultrasound or CT imaging where the defect or its contents need to be defined
  3. A review of mesh and non-mesh options, and open versus laparoscopic repair
  4. Attention to factors that affect healing, such as smoking, weight and diabetes control

Recovery and follow-up

Most patients receive graded activity and lifting guidance for the weeks after repair. Recovery times vary, and your individual plan and follow-up are discussed with you directly.

This information is general and does not replace a consultation. No outcome can be guaranteed, and the approach appropriate for you is confirmed only after a full specialist assessment by Dr Motheo T. Zimba.
