Oesophagus and stomach conditions

Upper gastrointestinal surgery

Specialist assessment and management of conditions involving the oesophagus and stomach, supported by appropriate endoscopic and surgical investigation.

Conditions assessed and treated

  • Persistent gastro-oesophageal reflux requiring specialist review
  • Hiatus hernia and related symptoms
  • Difficulty swallowing that needs investigation
  • Gastric and duodenal ulcer disease with surgical implications
  • Oesophageal and gastric tumours requiring multidisciplinary management

How assessment works

  1. Detailed symptom history, including medication already tried
  2. Gastroscopy and biopsy where these are clinically indicated
  3. Imaging and functional studies when the diagnosis needs further definition
  4. Multidisciplinary discussion for cancer and complex cases

Recovery and follow-up

Management may be medical, endoscopic or surgical. Where surgery is advised, the expected recovery, dietary progression and follow-up are explained before you consent.
